Lesson 10 of 12

Lesson 10

Transferring Safely to the Crib

How to lower your sleeping baby into their crib smoothly, minimizing sudden startles while keeping sleep strictly safe.

Parents often face this exact moment: your baby has finally settled and fallen asleep in your arms, but the moment you try to put them down, their eyes open and they begin to cry. Sometimes, a baby is awakened by a sudden change in position, a cool mattress, or a sudden loss of physical contact. The Moro (startle) reflex can also be part of this reaction.

The goal of this lesson is to make the transfer smooth and steady, helping the transition feel less abrupt and more comforting for your baby.

Illustration: two hands lower a sleeping baby onto a firm crib mattress, one palm cradling the head and the other supporting the back. The baby is lying on their back, and the mattress is bare apart from a fitted sheet.
The whole body at once, onto their back, on a firm flat mattress with nothing else in the crib.
